Rain and Revelations: A Review

I was reading an old blog of mine or, at least, an unpublished rant of mine, that talked about manifestation and intrinsic power. It was written in 2012, but I support its validity, even today. Take, for example, the following excerpt:
"With this mentality of mastery, we develop and demonstrate a type of strength against our oftentimes unfortunate circumstances. With this mentality of clarity, we can mitigate the misdirected blame that people tend to place on others in regards to the cause of one's misfortunes. Finally, with this mentality of prosperity, we create our dreams of happiness and take control of our fears of failure."
In retrospect, it was intended to be a self-help entry, but ended up being a half-hearted review of "The Secret". [Oh! The irony of half-heartedness in a self-help article.] Let's tackle them both at one time, yes?
Considering that I haven't seen the film since my original blog in 2012, I cannot/will not offer an updated opinion. Just know that it is quite the inspirational spill! Nevertheless, I find it necessary to harp on the idea of "self-actualization" during these "Covid moments." During these moments of isolation, uproar, and reflection, I feel that self-actualization will prepare us for maximization during the transition into this new norm.
In his article "Effects of the Black Death on Europe," Joshua J. Mark (who has written for a variety of notable publications) addressed the metamorphosis that took place following the 14th century plague. From religion, gender equality, the arts, socio-economics, and more-- he pinpointed the inevitable and far-reaching impacts of the pandemic. "[T]he plague would," he wrote, "change all that and usher in a new understanding which found expression in movements such as the Protestant Reformation and the Renaissance." We are in a new-age Renaissance that widens the door for healthcare reform, educational pursuits, technical learning, political stance, and entrepreneurship.
Contemporary news reminds us that despite the nation and communities reopening, in response to the wavering advice of state and national leadership, OUR plague (COVID-19) is not under control and is attacking at the core our most vulnerable populations, but surprisingly building their character. The elderly and chronically ill are left in seclusion trying to challenge on-going health concerns with minimal outside assistance. Self-inspired and rising entrepreneurs become even more ambitious while trying to hold on to their ticket out of poverty. Parents are forced to become more involved and hands-on with their children's curriculum. Politicians are being reduced to being more relatable, as NO family is exempt from the strife of this disease. But what's most beautiful of all is that "common folks" are taking this time to hone their survival skills. People are being forced to take even greater control of their lives; captains are regaining control of their ship.
AND SO SHOULD YOU!
What have you done during this lock-down to assure that you can come-up after the fact? I only hope that your mind is not blank following that question, as it may mean the same for your future. This is the best time to connect with others. Gather more information on your dream job. Talk with people in your dream position. I personally love LinkeIn, and it has proven to be very effective in expanding my network beyond local boundaries. Companies, like Plum Valley Group , allow you to even start a legit work from home job! Even if you simply have a need for reflection, self-care, and/or support, organizations like Self-Discovery: Pain, Positioning and Purpose can start you on the right path to improved holistic health. The time is now to make change happen in your favor.
That was the goal in writing the article, "A Captain and His Ship," and was the vision that I gained in watching "The Secret". It goes beyond putting those positive words into the atmosphere. It goes beyond believing. We must also put our mental and (sometimes) physical muscle to work. I implore you to use this "Covid moment" to regain control of your dreams.
