Black History is Day 8

Casted in the 1927 silent film, *In Old Kentucky*, we pay homage to Lincoln Perry as America's first Black #Hollywood star.

Although it is argued that Perry's character,  Stepin Fetchit, was the actor's own creation to symbolize "the negative side of the African-American experience" (NPR.org), historian and film maker, Mel Watkins writes how Perry was nothing like the character that portrayed. Nevertheless, he suffered much backlash from the African American community for adding to the already negative perception of Blacks to Whites, and he passed away having never received equal compensation/recognition for his talent and still fighting to restore his  image amongst the #AfricanAmerican community.
